independence day.

i’m thankful to live in this country, and a little embarrassed by all of the things i take for granted being born into privilege like this. BUT truthfully? the fourth of july always makes me feel like our founding fathers did a lot of work and hard thinking just so people can shoot off their own fireworks in the middle of the street, some years even despite the fireworks ban. who cares about the risk of fire? or the danger i could pose to those around me? this is the usa!

but the fourth usually allows for a cookout and some good food, and last night i happily sat in a friend’s air conditioned house, eating too many chocolate chip cookies, as is my right as an american citizen, and listening to my friends compete for the funniest meme they’ve seen. pretty all-american, i’d say.

I am attempting to capture the events, non-events, and thoughts about each, as they occur in the increasing busy-ness of life. As my professors always said "You might want to write this down." Who knows what could turn out to be important?

What do you think?
