Eliza is pretty ornery. She loves to tease Henry, our cat, and often suffers the consequence of a scratch for her efforts. But she keeps playing with him, because she just loves to tease.
Up until recently, her only way of “tricking” Matthew and me was to pretend she wanted a drink of whatever we had, and then turning away with a whimper and disgusted look when we would try to give her some. Then she’d laugh. But in the last several days, she’s come up with a prank that is pretty good, and fairly well thought out for a 15-month-old. Whenever we put her to bed, she gives us each a good night kiss. Lately, she’ll go back and forth between the two of us, giving us kisses, when bam! She sticks her tongue out and tries to lick one of us instead. It sends her into hysterical laughter, and you can tell she thinks she’s the smartest, craftiest ever.
The funny thing is, even though we know it’s coming now, she still gets us sometimes because she very carefully varies the timing, and her face is perfectly stoic until the moment she strikes. She’s pretty sneaky.
